OVERVIEW

The delivery of therapeutic aerosols via the respiratory tract is key for treating diseases or provide airway hygiene and the drug or medical device can only be successful if the application technology is functional for the target group and the formulation. Metered-dose, pump-based soft mist inhalation systems enable precise, region-specific aerosol deposition throughout the entire respiratory tract—from the nasal cavity to the deep lung. Central to this advancement is the implementation of soft-mist generating technology, which utilize Rayleigh break-up resulting in a soft mist with highly consistent droplet sizes, optimized for deposition in defined anatomical regions.

This webinar presents recent advances in airway-targeted drug delivery, including the Softbreezer and Softbreezer Larynx systems – propellant-free, preservative-free platforms optimized for both upper and lower respiratory applications. Attendees will gain insights into particle-size-dependent deposition strategies, the clinical relevance of laryngeal targeting, and the role of hydration therapy for airway hygiene, with implications ranging from chronic respiratory disease management to infection prevention in vulnerable populations.

Furthermore, a new platform application tool is being introduced: a pacifier-shaped drug delivery interface for infants. This child-adapted platform seamlessly integrates with existing Softbreezer or Softbreezer Larynx units, providing a comforting, age-appropriate method to deliver aerosols during natural pacifier use. The soft mist output allows for effective deposition during passive tidal breathing, removing barriers related to coordination and forceful inhalation – two critical challenges in pediatric drug delivery.

This innovation holds promise for hydration therapy, allergy management, and targeted treatment of infant respiratory conditions, while maintaining the aesthetic and emotional familiarity of a pacifier.

The discusses drug delivery systems bridge advanced engineering with user-centric design across the lifespan – from neonatal care to adult therapeutics.
